Prenatal Massage in Anoka County: What to Know
5D Wellness Team·6 min read·October 18, 2025

Pregnancy is a lot to carry, in every sense. If your lower back has opinions, your hips feel tight, and a full night's sleep is starting to feel like a rumor, you are not alone. At 5D Wellness in East Bethel, our licensed massage therapists offer prenatal massage as a gentle, comforting way to help expecting mothers across Anoka County and the North Metro feel a little more at ease. This is a warm, what-to-know guide written for neighbors in Ham Lake, Blaine, Andover, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Cambridge, Cedar, and Isanti who are curious about what a session involves.
One thing first, and we will say it more than once because it matters: prenatal massage is about comfort and relaxation, not medical care. Before you book, please check with your OB, midwife, or healthcare provider to make sure massage is a good fit for your pregnancy. We are happy to welcome you once you have that green light.
What Is Prenatal Massage, Really?
Prenatal massage is a gentle, full-body session adapted for a changing body. The pressure is typically lighter and slower than a deep tissue session, and everything is arranged around your comfort. The goal is simple: a calm, restful hour where you can let your shoulders drop and just breathe.
Many expecting moms come in feeling tightness in the lower back, hips, neck, and legs. A prenatal session focuses on easing that everyday tension and helping you relax. We do not make promises about labor, delivery, or any pregnancy outcome, and we would be skeptical of anyone who does. This is your time to rest, plain and simple.
When Can You Start?
This is one of the most common questions we hear, and the honest answer is: it depends on you and your provider. Many people wait until after the first trimester, but every pregnancy is different.
If you are in your first trimester, or if your pregnancy is considered high-risk, please clear prenatal massage with your OB or midwife before booking. Conditions like high blood pressure, a history of preterm labor, or certain other situations may mean massage needs to wait or be adjusted. Your provider knows your history best, so let them guide the timing.
Positioning and Bolstering: How You'll Be Supported
If you have wondered how massage even works with a growing belly, this is the reassuring part. Your therapist uses pillows and bolsters to position you safely and comfortably. Many moms are most comfortable lying on their side, supported by cushions under the head, between the knees, and along the belly and back.
Side-lying support is gentle on your hips and lower back, and it keeps pressure off your abdomen entirely. As your body and your due date change, so does the setup. There is no single right position, only the one that feels best for you that day. If something does not feel right, tell your therapist and we will adjust on the spot.
What a Session at 5D Is Like
We keep things calm, private, and unhurried. We offer two prenatal session lengths so you can choose what fits your day:
- 60-minute session — $99
- 90-minute session — $139
Each massage includes a 30-minute pre-sauna option built into the appointment. For pregnancy, heat needs extra care. Overheating is something to avoid while expecting, so please confirm with your OB or midwife whether any sauna use is appropriate for you, and how much. Many moms simply skip the sauna and go straight to the massage, which is perfectly fine. If you do use it, we will keep things gentle and limited, and you should never feel overheated or lightheaded. When in doubt, leave it out and ask your provider.
You do not need a membership to book a prenatal massage with us. Anyone is welcome to schedule a single session. We are a locally owned, women-owned wellness spa, and caring for expecting mothers in our community is something we genuinely love doing. Tips are always appreciated but never expected.
What to Tell Your Therapist
The more your therapist knows, the better your session will be. Before we begin, please share:
- How far along you are and your due date
- Whether your provider has cleared you for massage
- Any areas of discomfort, like lower back, hips, or swollen feet and ankles
- Any pregnancy complications or conditions your provider has flagged
- How you are feeling that day — tired, queasy, achy, or just ready to relax
None of this is awkward for us. We have these conversations every day, and they help us tailor the session to exactly what your body needs right now. There are no wrong answers, only helpful ones.
Little Comforts That Make a Difference
A few simple things can make your visit even better. Wear comfortable clothing, eat a light snack beforehand so you do not arrive hungry, and bring water to sip afterward. Give yourself a few extra minutes so you never feel rushed. And if you need a bathroom break mid-session, just say so — pregnancy comes with that, and we completely understand.
If you have favorite music, a temperature preference, or a scent that makes you queasy, tell us. Small adjustments add up to a session that feels made for you.
A Local, Reassuring Place to Rest

Whether you are coming from Ham Lake, Blaine, Andover, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Cambridge, Cedar, Isanti, or right here in East Bethel, we would love to help you rest.
